Simple graphic design tips for improving your social media campaigns

« Back to all posts

Managing a host of social media accounts can be a challenge, especially when planning a campaign that is visually effective across multiple platforms. To help you improve your social media tiles and posts for better engagement, we have put together our top five graphic design tips.

1. Image sizes

design tips for social media campaigns

Every social media platform has different dimensions for imagery based on what they are going to be used for. Make sure that you know what these sizes are before putting the hard work in to your campaign and choose or design imagery that can be scaled easily to suit each platform so that you don’t end up with a cropped image that looks unprofessional.

2. Text

Whilst image-led social media campaigns often perform the best when it comes to engagement, a bit of text is usually necessary to get your message across. A good rule of thumb is to have no more than 25% of the design dedicated to text, saving plenty of room for some good visuals.

3. Colour modes

A little-known fact to those outside the design world is the existence of colour modes. Colour modes dictate how colours are displayed for an image and using the wrong ones can negatively impact your social media campaign.

So, make sure that any imagery used for digital works is set to a RGB colour mode for the best results.

4. Consistency

Perhaps one of the most important design tips to remember when launching a social media campaign is to be consistent, whether this is incorporating a particular branding style across all design works or simply using the same style of font throughout.

Sticking to a consistent style, theme or set of brand guidelines throughout your campaign will only strengthen your results, make your campaign more recognisable and help you become more organised.

 5. Get creative

Social media platforms are crowded places and it can be hard to get your campaign to stand out. Being creative with your visuals can make all the difference and trying new things can help to avoid your campaign becoming stale over time. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different designs and layouts to see what works best, and investigate current design trends which may offer useful insights into new ways of boosting your future campaigns.
